A little about the long history of our sport.Did you know that the first physical evidence of martial arts is in murals painted in a tomb at Egypt’s Beni Hasan site?

The scenes show wrestling techniques and they date back to the 20th century, B.C.

A little about the long history of our sport.

Local wrestling great, Coach Larry Nelson of Vacaville, has passed away. I am sure some of us who are from Sac-Joaquin remember Coach Nelson during the 80s and early 90s coaching then still showing up after he "retired" to take pictures of the Vaca kids at tournaments. Godspeed Coach. It’s with a heavy heart to share that Vacaville Wrestling’s patriarch, Coach Larry Nelson, has passed away. We all have a tremendous amount of love and appreciation for Coach Nelson, who founded our beloved wrestling program.

Coach’s wrestling roots are tied to Wisconsin where he was a high school state champ (‘49), and at the Michigan Wrestling, where he won a Big Ten Conference Championship at 123 pounds (‘51) with the legendary wrestling coach Cliff Keen. In 1961, he started the Vacaville HS Wrestling team with only one wrestler on the roster. And by the time he retired (‘94), he amassed an amazing 41 championship banners and accumulated 533 dual meet wins. Coach Nelson also contributed his time in leading Section and State wrestling organizations, helping shape California wrestling to what it is today. He also, was an influential English teacher on campus, inducted into the 2014 Inaugural VHS Hall of Fame. Currently, the Vacaville Wrestling program consists of over 200 student-athletes and countless alumni which will always embody the Nelson Legacy...toughness.

Rest In Peace, Coach.

There are actually a few things to consider when running this move. If we say you can execute the move, the next consideration is watch your own back. I did this exact same move at Masters (not called that in 90) and my position was the same as Seth Gross. I was controlling the action and initiated the move, the referee slid around, didn't look at my opponent and called the fall on me not my opponent. This knocked my out of the tournament and I will never forget it. When we teach this there are several key things you can do to prevent this from happening. You have to be working on your Level 4 tho 🙂
